2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Transition Comes After Poor Reception
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster early showing last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure informed employees about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the requirement for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now refining the project with a refreshed approach, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment
This announcement follows a comparable action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the full message from Ismailer's memo:
Dear Team—
I know you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”
Through your commitment and versatility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the feedback to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our players.
The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of the team. Following some time of talks, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
His leadership and background in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having spent the last 15 years developing and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in receiving him next week. We are all eager to continue observing the development of the game in the time to follow.
David
